There was a red wings assembly at a local elementary school the other day and I went to take pictures. The "coaches" asked questions of the kids, who got Red Wings pencil cases (they still make pencils?) if they answered the question right.
One of the first questions was, what do fans throw on the ice in a playoff game?

New arena. They don't want slime flying everywhere.

Here's an idea -- sell nice fake octopi in the arena. Make them expensive enough so that not just any yahoo can buy it. But, it'll give people something to throw. Florida fans didn't throw real dead rats on the ice.

This made me chuckle.

Octopuses are intelligent, sensitive animals who feel pain, and it's no more acceptable to kill one for such a disrespectful, frivolous, and stupid purpose than it is to throw dead bear cubs onto the ice during a Bruins game," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said at the time in a statement.

PETA are a bunch of whackos.

How the hell can they enforce a ban anyway? Last I knew they don't ID people and run them through a database when they enter. Just have a buddy buy the tickets, or get them on stubhub or something.

I'd imagine the real threat is IF he managed to get in trouble at the arena again he'd be charged with trespassing? But all he has to do is not do something dumb.

He's not banned. A Wings spokesman says he was ticketed and released. But he's not banned in any way.

Totally agree with the band. Obviously it probably got a bunch of people with its slime. Also, it's a waste of an animal. Lastly, it is not an acceptable behavior to do that at an event. Any event. It is a barbaric tradition and we need to grow up and move on.

PETA wants the octopi for themselves, so they can murder them "humanely."
