Witkowski vs Mcilrath

Similar type of player. McIlrath is bigger and younger. The difference is probably negligible but the cap space used for Witkowski has made the Wings' cap issues more severe.

Witkowsi is one of Blash's boys and cam play wing or D. He's a puncher version of Meech. McIlrath is a slow D who can't do anything but punch. Witkowsi can also be sent down in favor of a cheaper player as well.

Personally, I'd bring back that Russian who was waived form the Leafs.

Who cares? Bring them both here.

Green should have been traded at the deadline last year.
Tatar should have been traded before the draft.
Daley? Don't need him.

Now, you've got plenty of cap room to promote Bertuzzi and McIlrath, pick up Marchenko off waivers, re-sign AA, and secure a top 5 draft pick.

I was OK with waiting a year to move Green, he might bring more as a rental. Daley was a mistake though. Holland apparently is deluded enough to believe that adding another second pair caliber D is going to put the over the top

I don't think that he is quite that deluded but I do think that he thinks they will make the playoffs and it seems that that is his goal.

The Wings only have 12 forwards (including Franzen) signed to NHL contracts and 9 d-men (including Witkowski) so they are probably viewing him as a forward. Supposed to be an untalented, big, very physical, hard working player. It will be nice to have a tough guy on the team. Will provide much needed entertainment value and I suppose it is much easier to shelter his lack of talent on the wing than on D.

Good fight here.

Nice scrap but I don't think I'd say Witkowski won it.
