He was projected to be a first rounder.

Kronwall weighted 155lbs when he drafted -FYI he was ranked the 26th European skater by the CSB

Kronner scored 5 goals at the WJC and had some big hits and his stock rose dramatically for the final Central Scouting rankings. (They have preseason, midseason and final rankings every year).

The 26th European skater was the final CSB- At the time other GM's were saying that he looked like he belonged in Bantam hockey and were openly laughing. Sorry if that doesn't fit your narrative

THN had Kronwall ranked in the first round in their annual draft preview.
This whole board openly laughs at you.

You take the opinion of a reporter and I'll go with the CSB-problem solved

Don't look now!! But it seems Kronstantinov knows more than Hakan Andersson!! Too funny!!

I know one scout who tried to bring up Niklas Kronwall's name with his team. They just laughed at him. They never even had a serious dialogue. They just stopped him. They said 'a 5-11 Swedish defenceman?' [The Red Wings] organization is more open-minded than that.

One, CSB doesn't have a sterling reputation.
Two, those hockey news rankings were based largely on conversations with scouts.

That said, I don't believe Kronwall was a first rounder in THN and I'd need to see proof to believe it.

I know Smith and Joakim Andersson were considered 1-2nd round material.

On the flip side, I'd love to see a link with evidence that other GMs were openly laughing at the Wings for drafting kronwall.

I found a USENET post from 2000 that claims Kronwall was ranked 47th by The Hockey News
