There's going to be a temptation to give this current group every minute of opportunity to get back in the playoff race and keep the playoff streak alive, but the better move would be to join the sellers while it's still such a strong sellers market. The Red Wings have three goalies. They could move one of them. They have winger Thomas Vanek, who absolutely should be traded, even if the Red Wings want to bring him back again in the summer. Brendan Smith is a strong skating defenseman who has the skill to play in a top four --

Saw that too, if other people besides Custance think that, maybe he actually has some trade value, which would make it more sensible that Marchenko was waived to keep him.

Well, he is a very good skater. And, he's had stretches where he can play really well.

Main problem is that he needs a strong partner, something he's never had in Detroit. A few years ago, when he was paired with Kronwall for a few games, he looked like a top 4.

Has Smith ever had anybody here that could mentor him on defense? Seems like he's been left to his own device.

The Score also jumped on the Wings should rebuild band wagon. These articles should have been written right after last season. Doesn't take much of a genius to figure out a team in the bottom 5 should rebuild.

You undervalue this team. Today they are 7th from the bottom.

Heheh...oh, man. We have fallen on hard times, folks. Forced to root against our team, hoping for disaster to send us reeling to the cellar.

It's one thing to lose with a purpose. It's something completely different to lose because you are rudderless.

Lose with conviction, boys!

If you are losing because you have tried to accumulate draft picks, that ok.

If you are losing because you have a bunch of young players in the line up, that's ok.

If you are losing because you mortgaged your future on a Cup run, that's ok.

If you are losing because you signed a bunch of third liners to long term contracts and traded away your top pick for Datsyuks contract because you think you can play for 8th in the East for the next 4 years and you are failing at that small goal, you are rudderless.
