ESPN agrees:

Sorry all, I should have made the topic title "This is a GREAT read". My apologies for not following the rules.

Sounds like Corey Pronman really knows our prospects.

Craig Custance: It's time to sell. There's going to be a temptation to give this current group every minute of opportunity to get back in the playoff race and keep the playoff streak alive, but the better move would be to join the sellers while it's still such a strong sellers market. The Red Wings have three goalies. They could move one of them. They have winger Thomas Vanek, who absolutely should be traded, even if the Red Wings want to bring him back again in the summer. Brendan Smith is a strong skating defenseman who has the skill to play in a top four --

Saw that too, if other people besides Custance think that, maybe he actually has some trade value, which would make it more sensible that Marchenko was waived to keep him.

Well, he is a very good skater. And, he's had stretches where he can play really well.

Main problem is that he needs a strong partner, something he's never had in Detroit. A few years ago, when he was paired with Kronwall for a few games, he looked like a top 4.

still not, you waive jensen. Hes small, and old, and has like 10 games of nhl experience...12? Despite having been statistically sound over the last dozen games, his defense hasnt been particularly good, hes gotten turned around at his blue line many times, pinched at bad times, coughed up pucks at bad times (in some instances like last game they bounced right back to him).

Im not trying to be harsh with him, he hasnt played awful or worse than most of our other guys, just saying stats arent everything, and hes the guy that likely doesnt get claimed. Who knows maybe marchenko doesnt either. But if the plan is to move smith because some team sees value in him (hard to believe when hes been scratched in back to back playoff years) Jensen is the one you send down.

This is like lashoff all over again.

If you've got a Duncan Keith he could be Brent Seabrook Light. Very light.

Let's hope other teams see Smith in that light, or at least through the squinty eyes in a cloud of bong smoke this writer is in.

Smith is big, fast and can take a punch, too bad his mental game isn't up to speed of his legs.
